Default 850 radio codes

I just bought a Volvo 850, but the radio needs a code. How do I go about this?

What would a shop charge me?

Thanks! =- )

Some cars seem to have the code written on the radio itself; it needs to come out of the nest. If this does not apply, visit a local Volvo dealer, give them your VIN and they should be able to get you the code. Note, that some dealers seem to require a photo ID. As to how much they would charge, I am not certain. Other members should be able to give you some ideas.

Good luck,

Most dealers do not charge for this. You will probably need to show proof of ownership of the car. If the radio is the original factory radio all the dealer needs is the VIN. If the radio has been changed you will need the radio serial number.

Some dealers will give you this info over the phone so you might not even need to go there personally.

Good luck!

Also, check in the owners manual. Sometimes the code is on a credit card sized card.

I picked up a replacement radio at the junkyard. Took the radio into the parts dept of a dealership near me, and in a minute or two, I had the code for it, no charge.

I had to go to the dealership to get the code for mine. No charge, but they made me produce the registration for the car along with a photo ID. It was the same when I wnated a replacement key made
