Default 850 roof trim

Hello, anyone know how to remove the delaminating trim pieces from roof edges?

This is just a semi informed response, but I hope it helps.

I assume you mean an 850 sedan. Mine were all peeling, too. I have a '94. A body guy did mine for me as part of a larger job he was working on (I had been hit in the .25 panel). He described that the whole trim pieces pull right out of their grooves, they're held in by pressure, and they're reasonably flexible. If you lift one end out (of one of them) I think it will be obvious and you will get a feel for it. I'd start at the back of the car. I had to adjust my V70 trim between the supports on my roof rack and I imagine it's similar. The V70 trim popped out and in very easily. It's probably obvious to you, but the whole trim strip comes out, not just the center raised part where it's peeling. Hope this helps.

Hey now,

Thanks for the post/link. I appreciate it alot as I'm looking to fix up my trim and I'm looking to paint up the body trim.

I even went so far as to buy the paint and now I'm looking for some super fine sandpaper and some vinyl cleaner type grease and grime remover so that I can prep the trim and bumper and I even have the painters tape and plastic so that I don't get paint where I don't l want.

I will definatly post some pic's of the prep and process(Test spot first)and I'm sure a steady hand and I'll have something to be happy about as I'm still paying for the replacement engine.

Thanks for your insight.Removed the trim with ease! I used my right angle die grinder with a 2" scotch bright roloc to remove remaining paint. Cleaned of residue with prep-sol then hit the trim with SEM brand flexible bumper paint. No need to cover the rubber portion under the metal. Looks great! I figure if its good enough for bumper covers, why not the trim?

The SEM products are great.

I redid the dash and consoleon my daughter's Porsche withtheir interior dyeand it has held up great for over a year. I wish they had a color match system at the vendor locations.

I like the scotch brite trick. I need to fix the rooftrim on my son's 850.

There's a product called "Goo-gone" which is really good at loosening sticky gummy products, for instance when you peel off a decal from a car and it leaves behind a gooey substance. I don't know how well it would work, but it's not very expensive... just a thought.

Hey now,

"Goo-gone" you say. I'll look it up and see if it's what I need and if it's available around here.

I work swing shift so trying to do this during the week isn't really possible for me and I'm hoping this weekend isa little warmer . I'll have the camera out and I'll take lots of[sm=Flahssssss.gif] .
