Opening ABS unit

RE: Opening ABS unit
Hi,
Some ABS module housingsare made of ABS (a form of resin that looks & feels identical to plastic).
If you have removed all accessible fasteners and the cover still doesn't want to come off, I believe it is held in place with silicone adhesive or equivalent. In such case, you can only use mechanical means to open it and never use heat, as the internal electronic components will be damaged.
Sorry I couldn't be of better help.

Hi,
I haven't seen an ABS module with metal casing either, as most are made of ABS (a form of resin that looks & feels identical to plastic).

RE: Opening ABS unit
It is the ECU (control module) that is the problem. Multiple sensors wouldn't go like that, unless if your car was nearly totaled. I would have it repaired by:
http://home.earthlink.net/~vicrocha/
One drawback: this guy only deals with '96 or newer units. And as you indicated, it seems poor soldering is the problem.

RE: Opening ABS unit
So I picked up an ABS controller from the junkyard, and it seems I got the one with TRACS too. PN 9401542. Can I use this without any issues? I found a link mentioning adding TRACS to a non-TRACS car, but the question wasn't answered about just using the ABS controller as is.

RE: Opening ABS unit 9401542
I have the same model except mine has a blue lable (pn 9401542).
I'd like to repair it but do not want to leave a hole in my car while it's out so would anyone let me rent one from then for $20 and I'll return it when right after mine is returned?
I would even consider buying one if anyone finds one at a bone yard. However, I would not want to pay more then $50 for it because of the $100 repair cost. Mine has tracs by the way.
thanks
