Change the fuel pump relay. I think they should be changed every 10 years or 150,000 miles.

If you can't find anything else I agree with tossing the fuel pump relay at it especially if it starts after a period of cooling down.

One thing though, when you say won't start does it still crank like normal ??

If it's not cranking it's a whole different animal.

This link shows where it's located:

my best bet would be the fuel pump relay. l had the same problem with my 1994 volvo 850, never knowing it was the pump relay. knew what the problem was after trading it in for my red 850.

Here is mine before pinpointing the fuel pump relay. You will see it start then die, start then die then the pressure holds and it runs.

Default finally fixed

Well....It wasn't the fuel pump relay...Under the removable shroud on top or the radiator there is a light green relay that controls power to the injectors....The relay was fine , but the plastic block connector was falling apart...did a temporary fix and it has been fine for the last 3 days...Think this must have been the problem...I did replace the Fuel pump relay...didn't help...at least not this time...Hope someone can fix thier intermittant problem using this info...
