Default 850 starter bolt location question

Hi,
I am replacing the starter in my 95 850, and I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to reach the lower bolt that holds the starter to the crankcase. It seems to be hidden behind the clutch slave cylinder and I can't even see it!

Any suggestions? or other tips on this job?

Thanks!

That may be the best way if I take out the plastic guard under the radiatior. As it is, you can hardly see up there from underneath at all!

yes, you have to get at that bolt from underneath. Pull off the splash shield (and take a second to be amazed that you still have one - they usually fall off) and you should be able to get right on it.

Is starter installation different on manual trans than autos?

I just pulled off the fan shroud and then everything was then accessible...

gdog: it shouldnt be, because the manual trans uses the same starter as the automatic.

Although it makes sense it would be easier to see on an auto, since they don't have a clutch slave cylinder

Thanks for the tips everyone!
