Hi all!

I am new here, so I am sorry for the silly question. However, I am considering going swiss! There is a 1996 850 T-5 R sedan, white in color, near my house.

My question is: Was this car made with the option of white paint in this year? I ask because I was reading a (profesional) review off of KBB where it was noted that the 850 R only came in 2 colors in 1996 (black and red). However, these reviews are typically written before or shortly after the car is released. Meaning, that white could have been added to the roster later on in 1996.

With all of the rebadging going on nowadays I just want to make sure I am buying a "850 T-5 R," and not something else.

Also, if I can't get an answer... CARFAX should be able to tell me the EXACT make and model of this car, right?

If the 6th and 7th position of the VIN is 58, it's an R. The regular turbo called T5 after 95 has 57 in that position. The only year it was called T5R was 95. In 96 and 97 it was just called an R. I found a white 96 850 R on Autotrader.

Also the interior of the R's has a combination of suede and leather, not just leather like the T5. The spoiler on the back has a slight curve up and the tip is grey on the 96 and 97 R. The molding under the front bumper is more curved and has round fog lights.
