RE: 850 T5R
She didn't spend $70,000 for it I can tell you that.
Well she isn't in her right mind if she thinks she bought it for that much and she will ask some dumb high price for it anyways.
Yellow 850 T5-R's by the way are awsome and if I were you I would snag it up if the price is right.

RE: 850 T5R
agreed...no way in hell did she pay 70k for it. I have the original sticker that came w/ my wagon and it was $40k. Now if she's speaking about that amount in Canadian $ that may be a bit closer...no idea what the exchange rate was back in 96.
I paid $6k for my wagon last year w/ 95k miles on it, but it was(and still is) in need of a lot of repairs. I've seen yellow wagons go on VS for $7-9k, and sedans generally go for less because they're much more of those around.
How many miles are on it, what kind of condition is it in?

But an estimate of the price, what should i expect? 7k? 6k?

RE: 850 T5R
I mean, i dont know if i would give 10k for that car, i mean come on its 10 years old, and for 10k you can get a 2002 Nissan Maxima or something like that, i would pay up to $7.5k, Tomorrow I will get the number of the lady, and i will post here the price that she is giving me

RE: 850 T5R
It's simple economics 1-0-1. There is no supply, but ther is demand. If a yellow T5R was in 'knock your socks off' condition, I would give $10K because I have wanted one since I first saw one in 95. I found two of them last year when I bought my R, but one was in bad condition based on a pre-purchase inspection I had done and the other one was in California and something about it and the seller scared me off.

RE: 850 T5R
Yes, i know all about supply and demand, but you have to understand that people here in Panama dont know how good a volvo is, so they usually sell it very cheap, thats why
I mean here people dont pay more or less on the condition of the car, nor how many miles it has(i know sad), there is a 1991 volvo 740 being sold for $1,000 and it has 40k miles on it..

RE: 850 T5R
Nice, i mean, i would pay 10k without even hesitating(for a sedan) but, since i am a college student im broke and my parents refuse to help me buy a car so old , what can i say to make them help me buy one, i mean i have a 940 and omg, that car has so many problems that is ugh, but yeah, how can i change their mind about an 850 T5 or an 850T5-R
I just called the volvo dealership and the lady said that she has a list of some 850's that they are selling, when they send me the list i will see if there is any T5R, and i will post the list here

RE: 850 T5R
If you are broke I'd really make sure whatever car you buy has had a good maintenance history. Parts for these cars are not cheap and you'll need to wrench on it yourself if you want to save some money. You will wind up putting your mechanic's kids through college (no offense tech..hahaha) unless you can do at least a few basic things like fluid changes and tuneups, etc. yourself. Some repairs can be quite pricey:
Rear Main Seal = $800-1000
A/C Evaporator= $1000-$1200
Timing Belt=$300-400
PCV Service=$400
These are great cars and they will last a very, very long time but they require IMO more maintenance and attention than my other (Japanese) cars. That may be because I've owned the Toyotas since they were new and I'm now in the position of playing maintenance 'catch-up' with the Volvo I bought with 126,000. Bottom line: Take care of the car and it will take care of you!
