Is it possible to put an engine block warmer on an 850 turbo 96. I would love to have one for all the cold winter nights in the driveway. I have heard of replacing oil caps with a sort of aquarium heater. Anyone know anything about it? Thanks again guys.

 

It is possible never seen or installed one though.
But I know there is one avalible for the engine.

 

It's a standard item on any car in Canada so it's got to be available. My non turbo has it, and having a turbo isn't going to change the engine's need for some heat in -30C weather. I'm sure that if your local parts store can't find it, then the Dealership will be able to order you one. I believe it was part of what's called the "cold weather kit" up here.

It should require pulling a frost plug out (which requires draining the coolant from the engine) and then installing the heater element in place of the plug. There are other options, including the installation of an in-line coolant heater which usually means splicing into a coolant line from the engine block to the heater core. A little impeller pumps the coolant through the system while heating it. Some of the newer systems are really great, some will last a few yearsbefore the impeller finally quits,but the tried-and-true block heater is pretty much indestructible once installed, and will outlast the car.

Why not jake-rig one made from another car or truck these are as low as 30 bucks but keep in mind your coolant is a closed presurized system any tiny leak will overheat your engine thats why even coolant cap gasket leakwill make you think youve blown your head.The ones to look for are those that have screw fittings. Keep in mind some are plug-in-only ( there powered from your house socket)
