Default 850 turbo transmission decisions

I took my car to AAMCO for an evaluation for leaking transmission fluid and the harsh engagement going into reverse. They recommended a rebuild, but could not quote me a price until they "pull the transmission" and evaluate the internal coponents. Has anyone ever used AAMCO before; are they a respectable shop for transmission rebuilds? Also, would anyone have a ballpark figure on what this may cost. At this point, I have a few weeks left on the warranty that is through the dealer where I purchased the car that will pay 50% parts/labor.
What type of trans. fluid would be recommended: a good synthetic or should I stick to the Mercon II that the factory manual recommends?

what are some of the symptoms of transmission problem that you are experiencing?

is it slipping, does it shift properly?

where is it leaking from?

you will never know, but might just need fluid change and save you alot of money. transmission rebuild cost alot on these car so you might want to try other options first before making an end decision. l get harsh engagement on my transmission too and its been fine.one guy had that hash bang for 6 years and his transmission is still shifting good

did you do a fluid change if l may ask? l have never used AAMCO, may be you can wait on others who have had the experience with AAMCO to answer that question for you.
