850 wagon shakes while driving
So i reacently bought this 850 wagon and it shakes like crazy even at low speeds it feels like the whole car is rocking side to side and at higher speeds the steering wheel also shakes like its about to come off i had the tires balanced and i dont know, could it be a warped hub or what i ve seen a lot of people have this issue but no one has solved it on the forums
starting with possible causes - in my order or probability: CV joint/axles - are the boots in good shape? do you hear clicking when making a K turn or backing out of a parking space while turning? Wheel bearings - does its moan change with road speed? does it sound different on a left hand sweeper turn (say at 40 MPH or so) vs right? Tires/wheels - If you rotate the tires front to rear. does the feel/sound change? Steering rack/tie rods is there play in the steering? can you see any odd motions or movements with the front on jacks while turning or forcing the wheels by hand? Suspension bushings - again can you feel any play when the front end is in the air? now do the same for the back end - pay attention to the front mount of the rear delta link (the bushing that mounts to the chassis about a foot in front of the tires. inspect for any rust around the mounting point. Engine motor mounts - does the vibration change if you pop into neutral or float the gas pedal (this may also test for axle issues)?
I'd really doubt it would be a warped hub - rotors may warp but you'd feel that in the brake pedal and not in the steering. My hunch is it could be worn front control arms, axle CV joints/bearings. I'd also check the rear delta link bushings worn tie rod ends, steering rack mounts as well.
