Default 850glt engine rebuild

i have a few questions before i rebuild my engiene on my 850, how can i remove the grease-gunk, from the origional liquid gasket?. I accidently broke one of the piston rings (the oil retaining one), is it better to only change the broken ring or the entire set for this piston? and if i change all the rings on one piston, would it be better to change them on all pistons?

There is a gasket scraper that should be able to get all of the liquid gasket stuff off. I am thinking if you could find a plastic one, it would be best. That way you will not be able to damage the aluminum sealing surface like you could with some type of metal scraper.

I would replace the rings for the whole engine. That way you know that they all have the same wear and you wont have one cylinder performing better than the others.

if your rebuilding the engine, technically you should be removing all the pistons honing the cylinder walls, and installing new rings and or pistons.

I also agree, if your going to have it apart you should change out all 5 sets of the piston rings.
Also for the gasket, you can buy a spray on gasket remover at any auto parts store.
It works ok, and like Dan said try not to use anything metal on the aluminum, since it can scratch really easy.
