Default 850R Won't start

Hello,

I think the fuel pump in my 850 is faulty. My wife drove the car to the store and it would not start. The car is cranking but will not turn over. I removed the hoses from the fuel pump to see if fuel was being pumped into the fuel system. When I removed the hoses and turned the key, no fuel pumped out the pump. Should fuel have pumped out the pump when I turned the key? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Simple stuff first. Get a rag at the fuel pressure release on the fuel rail...if you don't have any pressure then you can move forward. First I would raise the back seat so you can get close to the fuel pump, have someone else engage the key and you listen for the pump to come on, if you hear it come on then have the key removed ...Then, I would disconnect the battery, get under the car with a rag, disconnect the output of the fuel filter and reconnect the battery, key out, then have someone else, quickly turn the key on and see if fuel pours out, be careful and tell them on and off for a second...and do not smoke or get yourself in the position where fuel could get on you or in your eyes...SAFETY FIRST. If fuel doesn't come out and the pump is engaging, then I would first change the filter, not a bad thing to do anyway, if you still aren't getting fuel out, then I would Go to a bone yard and get a new pump, they are easy to remove and you can get them pretty cheap...

You should also check the connections and operation of the fuel pump relay as well.

Hello Everyone,

Thank you for the information! It was actually the fuel pump. I fixed it Friday morning and it took me may be 30 minutes to fix. The pump was pricey, but if I can get another 11years out of it, thenit is worth it!
