I have a 1994 850 sedan (non-turbo) that will crank but not start. I can smell gas. Have replaced cap and rotor. Checked resistance on the coil (should have range of 8-9 kilohms -reads 7.90). Have spark to rotor cap. shows no fault codes on the A2 (1-1-1). Any suggestions? Thanks.

Of the basic 3 requirements for an engine;

1. Good spark
2. Good fuel supply
3. Good compression

1 & 2 seem fine, so it could be either #3 (loss of compression) or faulty camshaft position sensor. Now, have you checked the ignition wires & spark plugs? I wonder if the fuel pump is playing tricks also, even though you smelled fuel.

Have you tried flooring the accelerator pedal & cranking? If not, try it to see if the engine responds. Also, please provide us with any additional info you might have noticed.

Did it stall and then just not restart, or has it been hard to start for a while? It could be so many things, it's hard to tell with very little information.

 

I had no other problems with the car before this. It always started fine.

 

Check for injector pulse.
