Default 94 volvo 850 Turbo sudden no start

Hi there and thx to all for such good volvo advice and help..

soooooooooooooooo

here is my problem
a few weks ago i did a FULL tune-up
New plugs
new wires
new rotor
new distibutor cap
and the car was running VERY well
then 3 days later...go out early in the morning to start it and it
turns over like crazy but wont fire up

I chedk the fuel rail and....no gas in it,,,,
so I took off the gas line from the fule filter and turn the key on
and NO gas spiitting out..so i removed the filter and tried the key again
and SOME pressure came out.
So I changed teh GAS FILTER and tried it again.....NO START...NO GAS at rail.
Following the ideas in here I next changed teh FUEL PUMP RELAY..
still no gas at rail.......so then proceded to change the FUEL PUMP..
tried it again and still no fuel to the rail...even tho I can hear the pump working....so then...i changed the FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR on the fuel rail...tried it again...and VOILA.....gas at the rail spitting out....
I go to start it and the starter just does "click..click...click.."
I remove the starter for off car testing with a 12 volt line and ..it doesnt work..so I get a new starter and put it on....
I try it and the BATTERY is dead,,,,,
so i recharge teh battery and try it...and it turns over now but wont start..then after a few minutes,,,starter does " click...click..click..."
I take it back out and return it and guess what....BAD SOLENOID...
so i put a 3rd one in..and go to start it and battery is dead again....I recharge it full and then it turns over BUT wont start...I check fuel rail again....NO GAS....tank is over half full by the way..
now thiniking it could be anintermittent IGNITION SWITCH problem....I changed that last nigth......wne to try it...battery was dead again....
recharged it over nigth...went out to try it this morning....it turned over
almost ONCE ..then from somewher up front...."click ...click...click.."
when ever I try to start it....as if teh SOLENOID was bad,,,,,or teh battery was low..which i know its not..it had around 12.90 folts and with the charger on it registers 13.2 volts...
so now...

the list of things done or changed...
spark plugs
rotor and cap
ignition wires
fuel filter
fuel relay
fuel pump
fuel pressure regulator
starter
ignition switch

and the list of symptoms now.....
sometimes turns over but wont start..
otehr times...'click cl;ik click" is heard.
gas at fuel rail sometimes but othe times none

ok theer it is ....this has all happened over teh last 2 weks and a half
and i have been working on it outside in canadian cold weather.
so any ideas or help will be well appreciated.

How about the contacts on the thikc red cable going from battery to the starter motor?
Check ground cables (bridded wire) for no damage and clean contacts. Sometimes those connection look good and strong but if you see evena bit of dry/oxidation symptoms then i would suggest removeing, cleaning and then giving them a shot of contact cleaner or vaseline in some cases. Check the starter motor relay? i guess its under the fuse box on the left rear of the engine compartment (near the driver wiper).

BTW, which part of Canada are you in? I am in toronto and wonder if I can help you firsthand. Send me a message if you feel like.
good luck!

Did you check the fuses? I know that sometimes the cooling relay by the top intercooler hose goes bad and will not let the car start. Also is the car getting a spark? Take out the coil wire going to the cap so it is still almost touching and then have someone try to turn it over.

Did the cam sensor plug fall apart when you were doing the tune up?

Not that I really know what I am talking about but from what you say your problem sounds like an electrical problem. I am willing to bet (a small amount of money ) that something drains the battery and/or kills other devices.

How about the lamp in the glove compartment? Thats a normal culprit in draining the battery cuz it stays ON after closing the glove box compartment.

Well if you had gas to the rail and you had spark and no start the cam sensor controls the injectors to allow them to pump gas into the motor.

hi again all..

ok here we are now...

teh car DID start when ther was gas to teh fuel rail
and it ran for about 3 to 5 minutes...

now..there is NO GAS in the fuel rail again for some reason...

the battery is fine the starter turns over well ...

I took off the return hose from the FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR
and there is PLENTY of gas spurting out of it,,,so the pump is working...

so here is the next question...
isnt the fuel pressure regulator supposed to allow the pressure in the FUEL RAIL to build up so that the fuel rail fills with gas BEFORE it opens and allows teh gas to return to the tank ?

If thats the case then i would think that the FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR is bad...is that not right ?

You are very right....the fuel pressure regulator works only to control the pressure to the rail but otherwise you should see the pressure in rail at all times ...even when the ignition is turned OFF. Woder if it is stuck open and is not allowing any pressure to be build inside the rail.
Try pinching the return line with some lockpliers and give it a start.

Default wow guess what ??

ok here we go again

i FINALLY got teh car to start and rev at about 500 rpm but very UNSTABLE,,,

THEN...........
I looked under the hood while it was running
and NOTICED that the TURBO hose coming from teh top of the RAD down to the throttle body and intake
was CRIMPING as if air was trying to be drawn in to the motor...
I stopped the motor and it uncrimped.....
next..I restarted it and while it was running
unhooked the hose from the top of the rad to allow air in,.,,
and.........VOILA,,,the rpms went to about normal = 800 rpm
its still running very rough and unstable but now its RUNNING
so it wasnt the PUMP or relays or fuel regulator or so it seems...
any of that that was stopping it from getting fuel...

so................ what now....what should i do or change
or what is cauing that blockage in that air intake ...any ideas ???

thx again to all

Make sure the air filter is not clogged at all.

The hose itself might be bad. If it is really soft I would replace it.

Default thx

ok ill check the air filter

but it only seems to be the turbo intake hoses that crimp..and collapse
is it possible the air passage from teh top of the rad is somehow blocked ???or constricted

thx

They all might need to be replaced.
