Default 96 850 glt alarm and door lock control module question

Hey guys. This is my first official question thread!

My 96 GLT has what appears to be an aftermarket alarm (has a siren next to the horn looking thing on the firewall) alongside the factory one. The remote does not say Volvo on it and only has lock, unlock and option buttons. There is no beep when I arm the alarm. No notification other than turn signals blinking as they normally do when I lock the doors via the remote. I cannot press lock twice fast to arm the alarm. I have to lock the doors, wait a couple seconds then press lock again. The only reason, I know it works is that I tested this all with the windows down and opened the door to get the horn to beep.

I have what looks like an aftermarket alarm brain under the knee protector on the driver side. There is no name on it, and when I unplug it, the door locks will not lock or unlock via remote. It has an odd on/off toggle switch dangling from it as well. Unplugging it and plugging it back in, does not cause any alarm to sound or anything that a typical aftermarket alarm would do. Even resetting it by disconnecting the batt and reconnecting does nothing to it.

The right side front driving light doesn't work and I assume it's alarm related, though I haven't pulled the corner light to check. I just got the car a couple weeks ago and haven't really looked to see how to change those yet. The turn signal works, but that light doesn't blink when locking the doors or arming the alarm. Only when using the turn signal.

Does anyone have any insight to this? If need be, I can take a picture of 'the brain'. There is no name anywhere on it so I'm a little stumped. I can force the aftermarket alarm to sound only by holding the lock button down and the only way to disarm it is to hold the lock button again. There is no way to arm the aftermarket alarm that I can tell. Flipping the toggle switch does nothing that I can tell either. So, it obviously isn't some sort of obvious kill switch...

If anyone has pictures of how an aftermarket alarm should wire into these cars, please post them or link me to them, so I can trace the wiring for this thing and hopefully straighten some things out!

TIA guys!

I dont recognize it but Clifford came to mind when I saw the first picture but after that nothing looks familiar. It might be a DEI.

You know the purpose of an alarm is to go off is someone gets in the car. All volvos are prewired for alarms. You need three things to make them work. The alarm module/receiver that is under the passenger kick panel, the alarm relay that is red and plugs into the relay box on the drivers side and the key fob. Very simple and the majority of it can be picked up at a wrecker. It will perform the same as that aftermarket and you can get on with your life. You might even have all the fixings in there now.

yea I have a feeling the OEM alarm is there. If I lock the doors twice and open the door, a horn starts honking (even though my horn doesn't work). It s a horn thats mounted on the firewall. If I hold a lock or unlock key down, a siren starts going off.

The only thing I care to have from an aftermarket alarm is remote start. I dont care about any extra noises. Once I fix the stock horn, that should be plenty loud enough to alert people.

Just found the manual for the alarm by searching a model # that's on the fob. Maybe I can find some useful info through more searches.
