'96 850 Why does my engine whine? (new to Group)
I have a 1996 850 and recently I've been hearing a whining noise when I turn the engine off. It doesn't happen every time, and there doesn't seem to a pattern when it does.
It's driving fine, and no noises when it's running. Any suggestions?
I thought it might be one of my belts...
Thanks!

mine does it when i accelerate, almost sounds like a turbo winding up, but its an n/a. i know its probably not a good thing, but i like how it makes it sound like a turbo :P

Because you have not told her "I love you" lately, have not bought her a decent dinner, have not bought a fur coat for this winter, have not said "Honey, I am really sorry", etc...
.....[8D].
Does it ever whine when you start it? I would first visually check the serpentine belt/driven components. I would also check the timing belt. It could be one of the pulleys driven by either the serp or the timing belt. When was the last timing belt change?
