Default 96 850R wagon won't start, no spark

Hi Guys,

I've been through the mill on this one. The trans arrow flashed and it was no start. Fiddled with it for an hour or two and went to buy code reader. came back and it started -no codes but up arrow now flashing on dash. It was very low on trans fluid (still drove fine) so I corrected fluid level.

Ran fine two days and then shut it off at gas station and no start again.
went to get car hauler and returned several hours later and it started to pull on trailer. Got home, no start. Now than I'm home I determined no spark at coil but have 12v at red wire. I've read blue wire should be about 1v but it reads 12v also

I have other cars to rob parts off of and changed cam sensor, crank sensor, coil, all to no avail. Still no codes but trans arrow blinking.

Have reverse lights so doubting PNP switch (also it cranks).

Been 3 days dead on driveway now and no codes but also no start because of no spark.

Ideas?

On the 94 and 95, the "fuel injection relay" had that style of Volvo plug that rots giving you intermittent electrical problems. That problem would produce some of these symptoms. That is revised a little on a 96, so I am not sure they rot the same. This relay I am talking about powers a couple of pins on the ECM and it'll give you a no spark.

Default Bingo!

Went out and tapped on the relay and she fired right up. I knew it had to be something simple but would have been at it another week without your 2 cents. Thanks Firebird.

My experience before these 850s has all been big block ponchos. Never had an F body but still have a couple GTOs.

Default update

Robbed a relay off one of my other 96s and seems to have solved the problem.
Still running but the up arrow is still flashing too. Not sure what it's trying to tell me.

up arrow means your transmission computer is starting the car in 2nd gear. Two things to check - make sure the winter mode button is not selected on the console. If that doesn't fix it, the next most likely cause is the PNP switch (park/neutral position sensor) is acting up. Try doing a shifter row (park to lo back to park about 20x fast) then restart the car. After that you should pull transmission fault codes - you may want to check your fluid level and color as well. Don't drive too long this way without a formal diagnosis as you will risk (further?) damage to the transmission.
