On a 96 platinum wagon, does anyone know if the plastic cover right above the handle (it also houses the license plate lamps) is supposed to be black or body color (pearl white)?

I thought it was bodycolor, but in a brochure it was black.

I'm suspecting black, but does anyone really know?

Maybe it came both ways,

The reason I ask is because I want to know if it's an indicator of a collision.

 

bout 60% sure its trim level dependent. not positive though. Mine's matte black like that first pick. Never seen the other though.

 

850's have the gray section and V70's have the painted section.

850's top tail lights are amber and V70 top tail lights are clear.

Another clue is the third brake light location.

The picture of the 850 with clear lights and a painted section have been updated by the owner. That is not standard for an 850.

 

He's talking about the piece of trim on the tail gate that the license plate lights are housed in. I've always seen them the same color of the car.

Just google "1996 volvo platinum wagon" and look at those pics. I want to get 1 and make it chrome like the newer cars (like an update). Keep my old one for when the fad goes away.

 

Ya, thats what I am talking about too. Mine is a 95 and is gray, not painted. did the Platinum 850 wagons have it painted? Am I wrong?

Your avitar has it painted, could it be part of a package?

My black wagon has it painted as well. I'm not sure, just thought all of them were painted to match.

 

Just googled it. It's seems like 50/50 are painted. Not sure how they came. LOL

My stand would be... if the car fax is clean, don't worry about it.

 

there has got to be some underlining reason. Pictured here are my wagons. Three are 95's and all three have gray parts. The XC is a 98 and it painted.

I'm going to assume that the ones painted have had some bodywork done (or perhaps they just had that part painted, doubtful)

 

my guess is that the bodyshop doesn't want to disassemble the tailgate so they just paint it bodycolor.
