Default 96 Volvo 850R refuses to start in cold!

Hello,

I've got a 96 Turbo 850R. Love the car and have had it about a month, but am having issues with it starting in the cold. Whenever there is a drop in temperature it refuses to start. Accessories work fine but nothing happens when I turn the key. Usually starts just fine when it warms up later in the day.

Battery is new, a Dura last Gold and was tested as fine by a mechanic. At the moment the heat and cold runs when turned off and doesn't respond to console controls 99% of the time. Turns off and on while driving.

Any ideas?

Just had rotors, spark plugs and a temperature sensor replaced.

Check the cable connections at the starter and starter solenoid first. If that doesn't help, I would start looking at the ignition switch.

Assuming when you say won't start you mean the engine cranks slower than normal. If so, also check the cables at the battery terminals - look for any damage to the insulation on the major cables from the battery to the starter - bad connections can cause the cables to heat up and bubble up the insulation. If you suspect the ignition switch - try wiggling the key to see if that helps on a bad start day... Otherwise if the engine crank speed seems normal, you likely have a fuel pressure issue - check the fuel pump relay in the relay box next to the fuses (simple bypass test, or replace it), the fuel injector relay (up under cowling by the radiator), the fuel pressure regulator or the fuel pump can be the root cause. Just did the pump and pressure regulator on my daughter's 850T and it starts before you can count to three now... As far as the heat and cold running when turned off - not exactly sure what you mean. Do you have any blinking lights on the AC and REC for the climate control (those signal a computer fault code)? Do you mean the blower runs on after your key is off or if the engine is off or do you simply mean the heat and cold air come the same no matter what you do with the climate control settings?
