1999 S70: sometimes refuses to rev
Hi. I'm new to the forums and to volvos. Unfortunately I've found myself here because of a problem. I don't know too much about the car, so please forgive my ignorance and guide me a bit as to what could be going wrong.
It's a 2.4 turbo with an automatic, 145,000 miles. I have a feeling the check engine light is burnt out or disconnected. The day after I bought the car, I noticed as I was pulling onto the highway (a two lane texas highway where you really need to get up to speed as quickly as you can) that it was significantly slower than it used to be. Torque up to ~2,500 rpm was normal, but above that it quickly gets weaker until at around 4,900 rpm it won't accelerate any more. The best remedy seems to be letting off the gas so it will shift down into 3rd or 4th to get the rpms to where it makes power.
It doesn't do that all the time. Normally, it runs fantastically, but that seems to be less frequent. After searching the forums, I couldn't find much. The closest thing seems to be the etm. But again, I haven't had much time to learn about this car. On monday I think I might try cleaning the etm and picking up a scanner to grab any codes its giving me.
So, my question is are these symptoms clearly indicative of a single thing, or am I going to have to do a lot of searching and parts replacing?
Thanks in advance for any help. I'm looking forward to becoming a part of the volvo community.

I would have the codes pulled first.
The throttle body might be bad or going bad. If that is it then Volvo covers that for 10 years 200,00 miles and you are real close to loosing the warranty on it so I would try to get the codes pulled asap.
