.....working on this for a friend, getting the abs / tracs lights about half the time, sometimes system initializes fine and lights go off, only to come on 15 minutes later, sometimes never initializes on startup....mechanic checked code, said RR SENSOR, pulled sensor and cleaned fuzz off, no different, can't see where sensor plugs into wiring harness, is it in one of the access panels in trunk? would like to check and clean the cennection where it plugs in if accessible...how likely is it that this is actually a RR sensor as the diagnostic indicated and not the ABS brain?

try removing, taking apart, and soldering the abs module.

There is a guy who does these for us. I was trying to find the link as it's in his signature. If you'd rather not tear into yours yourself let me know and I'll keep looking.

...that'd be great...thanks!

So...am I grasping at straws with the sensor? Since the diagnostic said RightRear sensor the ABS module wasn't my first go-to, am i missing something here? Do the sensors rarely fail and is it almost always the module, even when diagnostics say RR?

And....where is that darned plug where the RR sensor plugs in? can I get to it easily to clean that connection and eliminate that?

Cleaning it would be a good idea, but you could also try to sway the left and right side. If the code moves you know it's only a sensor.

Default Great Idea....and thanks for the link to rebuilder

.....but to swap it I still need to know where the rear ABS sensors plug in to the harness....don't make me call the a-hole service manager at my local volvo dealer!

I haven't done them but from the pictures of the sensors themselves the connectors are not weather protected. They have to come through the body and be connected inside the body. There should be a rubber plug the wiring comes through. Under the floor in a wagon or trunk/under back seat in a sedan.
It's raining and chilly or I'd go out and try to find it for you
