My wife has a 97 volvo 850 wagon. For some reason when you crank the car and go to put the car into gear the gear stick will not move. The ABS light comes on and everything in the car works but the car will not go into gear. So if anyone has any answers please help.

 

Does the headlight not work either?

 

Is the gear shift lever stuck in Park? If so there is a little button you can push to release the gear shift. If that does it you need to replace the mircroswitch down under the console.

 

If you have following symptoms :

- Gear lever stuck in park
- ABS Tracs lights ON
- Head lights or Daytime running lights off

Then simply replace the electrical part of the ignition switch. To make sure, just wiggle the key little bit after starting the car and see if thinks look better.
