Hi,

I ahve a 97 850 with no traction control. From time to time the ABS light comes on and then after a while goes off. Any clues about what to do about that? Is it serious?

Have the codes pulled is the first place to start.

 

The ABS module is failing, it happens to nearly every one of them. There are several rebuilders and they will rebuild the unit for under $150.00. Google Volvo ABS module repair and a variety of rebuilders will pop up. If you know how to solder you can fix it yourself, a link to a writeup I did on that subject will pop up as well with that Google search.

When the light is on your ABS will not be functional but the brakes will continue to work. The problems will get worse and eventually your speedometer will quit working if you don't fix it.
