Advice on changing 1994 850 Turbo
Hi.
I am going to attempt to change the turbo on my 1994 850 T Wagon.
I checked today and the turbo is leaking so I finally decided that I will need to change it.
The car still drives, but the boots gauge is always in the middle, and not moving either from the vauum stage into the boost stage.
With that and the turbo leaking it's finally time to change it.
I would appreciate if any of you could provide me pointers as to where to start or what order should I beging the work in.
Thanks.

TIPSP;
Thanks. That's exactly what I was looking for..
One last question, how can I tell which turbo it is? I know that Mitsubishi and Garrett made turbos for this car/year.
Taking it out is one way, but I'm just trying to save myself some time and avoid that.
One last thing. Where are the OIL RETURN SEALS?
After reading countless pages and forums, I'm hoping to fix that before changing the whole turbo. Owners wrote that it's a pretty common issue so I'll give that a try.
Thanks.

Thanks.
I do have the wagon. I took the car to the mechanic to give me a quote but it seems that he thinks I'm crazy if I'm going to pay him 1K for a turbo.
I'm going to pick up the car tomorrow so I'll know more about the PCV system.
Ebay has it for about $108, shipped.
Hopefully it's the oil return seals on the turbo. So far this is what I came across to changing the O-ring and seal.

Ok. I got the car back and he put the O-ring and the seal for the oil return line.
After about a 30 min ride home, I popped the hood and there is still some oil leaking.
Tomorrow I'll check the PCV and under the hood, under the car, to see if it's new oil leaking from somewhere or just old one burning off.
It's going to rain today so tomorrow it's sunshine all day.

Thanks.
I'll take some pic's and post them back.
Any idea on this: My AC/Heater system is off right now, well the fuse is taken out. Out of the number 5 slot in the fuse box. When I got to connect the fuse, my heater starts working without any control.
When I go to take the fuse out, there are two blinking red lights on the inside of the car, right where the AC button is and the REC button.
Any thoughts?
Also, I got a full PDF file on the 850 Turbo and Non-Turbo. Really good read and informative.

Well,
Jusy going thru the first post, I t says that you dont see the turbo gauge moving eitherway which tell me that its probably something related to you gauge not working at all. This could be a faulty gauge or disconnected/leaky tubing.
The gauge should move to vaccum or rather stay in vaccum during idling irrespective of the turbo's condition.
I replace turbo on mine iwth a little short route. What I did is
1 - Disconnect intake hosing and take it out after disconnecting the PTC connector and vaccum lines.
2- disconnect 3 rubber tubings to turbo .
3- remove the shield(s) from the exhaust manifold.
4- disconnect two coolant lines and both oil lines.
5- Open the hinge clamp (10mm nut) and take it out.
6- Slight hammer/mallet towards the driver side from passengerside and turbo is out.
7- Installing the new one was simple reverse process.
This basically avoids opening the tough manifold bollts and no gasket is needed to do it this way.
Just make sure everything else in the engine (PCV and all seals) are in good condition before playing with turbo.
