Default Air con problem

Hi all

I need some help on an 850 t5r. The problem is the air con. The evaporator has been replaced, the system works when first turned on.....Icy cold, hoses start get extremely cold, this is great.Problem is after one minute or so I here a click and the air has stopped working, fan isstill going as is thethermo fan. I have cleaned the compressor electric contacts, swapped the climate control but all to no sucess. When this works it is awsome, the gas, evaporator are all fine. Where else should I look. First time the car start the air works, the click nothing!!! What is wrong??

thanks

Ok, just done some fault testing, the click noise is the compressor turning off, if you tap it with a broom it turns back on. Does this mean I need to re shim this? Or should I buy a new clutch assembly? maybe a s/hand compressor and overhaul the clutch?

First I would have the system charge level checked. It sounds like the compressor low pressure switch is causing the compressor to cut out. Re charge the system and see if that helps. If not, then try re-shimming the compressor.

Check the clutch gap, my bet is on the shims.

I have it booked in to be done, the air con bloke reckons he can do it without removing the compressor. I noticed while the air con is on all the pipes appear to be frozen with ice forming on them all the way to the firewall, is this normal?

Well it definitely sounds like you have enough freon/R-134 in it. Looks like re-shimming it is the next step

If the pipes are freezing then the low pressure switch is also bad.

It is in the piping just before it goes into the firewall on the passenger side.

Fixed!!! The air con guy simply removed a shim, now the compressor works great, clicks in and out happily keeping the inside to near freezing temperatures!! Which is great for our 40 degree summers for weeks on end! Only $80, done with the compressor in vehicle. Thanks again for your help, hmmmmmmmmmmm wonder what will be next.....

Never ask that question!!!.

You dont want the next problem to be big.

Like the guy that says {What could possibly go wrong}

Its usually all bad immediatlyafter that.

Hope for the best ,but prepare for the worst [:@].
