Alignment question
I need to get an alignement done on my 96 850 T5 wagon. I just want to do a little homework before going there and being told things that are not true by the alignment tech.
Is there any Camber adjustments in the front? I dont have a camber kit and the car is at stock height. Is it just a toe and go for the fronts?
The rear, i have the drivers side where the tire is showing wear on the inside. Any ideas to why and what would need adjustment in the rear?
Thanks.

The car has camber and toe adjustments both front and rear. The wear you have in the rear is caused by excessive toe.
There are lot places that will tell you wear is caused by camber, but I disagree. I've had cars with 3+ degrees of negative camber with zero toe that wore very even. I've had cars with 1 degree of negative camber with 3/32nds of toe out in the rear (FWD car that needed rotation) that would cord the inside edge of street tires in 7000 miles.
So far, on my 850, the factory ranges have brought about good wear characteristics, even with semi aggressive driving. - AB

Hi huzzsaba,
B1mmer has pretty much covered what you need to know, so I'll just supplement his suggestions.
The camber range for the front would be very narrow, as there isn't much room for adjustment. Toe adjustment would be the major one.
As for the rear, it may be caused by a bent transverse arm (the huge arm reaching to the other side of the axle). But a good technician still should be able to keep the specs within the factory range, unless the damage is elsewhere or too severe.
I'll just give you the ranges I got from a Volvo dealer in Chicago, please note that this is the range for '94 850 T5 Sedan (though the sheet only says 850 1993-1997):
*All numbers are in degrees.
FRONT SPECS:
Camber: -1.0 to 1.0
Caster: 2.3 to 4.3
Toe: 0.12 to 0.22
Cross camber: -1.0 to 1.0
Cross caster: -1.0 to 1.0
Total toe: 0.23 to 0.43
REAR SPECS:
Camber: -1.5 to -0.5
Toe: -0.06 to 0.13
Total toe: -0.11 to 0.25
Thrust angle: -0.25 to 0.25
Last note. I would have it done at a dealer if I were you. The reason is the rear set-up. Most places should be able to do the fronts, but the rears are peculiar. I know a dealer charges more, but they'll do it right the first time.
Good luck,
JPN
