the 850s do store mileage (to drive the service interval). On the 94/95s you can use the OBD1 diagnostics port LED to read out the actual mileage. On the 96/97s you can use a VIDA/VICE (not a generic OBD2 reader) or make your own reader that uses the OBD2 port to read out similar to the OBD1 with an LED and a button switch (sorry don't have the link handy on the diagrams/pin out). The OBD2 will tell you if your speed sensor is broken - but typically that will present with a flashing up arrow since the transmission and ABS rely on that signal as well.

Yes, really. Bad enough for someone bring up a 3 year old thread with a 88 240 question, which have no relations to original thread question whatsoever. Make you own thread, https://volvoforums.com/forum/newthr...newthread&f=16 . It'll ensure every see your thread and your question, so your question is not buried under a pile of unrelated information.

no worries... just a few best practice ideas for all forum users -
1) add your location and your year/model to your profile 2) post threads in the most appropriate board - model specific boards are best when asking about a year/model 3) start new threads when asking about your own interests - old dates and prior comments tends to confuse contributors. 4) Google is your friend (and Youtube is a Google property...) which can give you some insights on what to include in a post. As an example, try googling "Volvo 240 speedometer cable" and you'd see forum threads, youtube vids on how to repair the cable etc. A great way to frame up a question for the board. Lots of love for 240 owners on the Volvo forums.
