Default Anyone have experience with 850 exterior trim

I took my recent pickup, now daily driver (97 850), through a automated car wash and the black paint on the aluminum trim (trim in between windows and windshield and windows and roof of car) got destroyed and is actually flaking off quite nicely. Can anyone offer opinions on the best way to tackle this. Do they remove easily without needing new weatherstriping for a paint job or am i better leaving them on the car. My haynes manual doesnt cover their removal/installation and im not experienced when it comes to trim. Any experience or opinions would be appreciated.

Never had to do it myself but here is Volvo's directions on how to remove the trim. Maybe someone else can get a little more detailed.

Remove:
-Rear end piece. Heat with a hot-air gun and slide backward
Carefully pry up trim as illustrated. Start from the back. Use a wooden spatula or similar

Install:
-Rear trim end piece
-Trim with end piece on roof.
Note! Start by pressing the trim into place at guide clip 4
-Press the trim into the top clip 5 on the A-post so that it is positioned correctly between the roof and windshield.
-Press down the trim backwards along the roof and downwards onto the A-post.
-End piece on roof
Note! The metal clips must be moved a little so that their catches do not go into the same slots in the holders.
Or install new holders.

Default Instructions worked great!

I was able to demo/reinstall the trim with ease. Would have never thought to adjust the hold down clips, but following the directions to do so created a better fit than the 14 year old factory job. Thanks again.

Flaked and fallen off the aluminum

Sanded, Primed, Painted and reinstalled

looking good! I repainted mine with truck bedliner. It gave me a little bit of a break in the solid black, at least texture wise.

Just gave this a try. My clips were rusty, therefore it was a bit tougher to get them to release. I kinked the trim a bit at the bend where it goes from roof to pillar. You should be careful all the way down the piece of trim when removing. I also think it's a good idea to put some electrical tape along the exposed edge of the windshield while the trim is off. I have seen a windshield crack with the slightest nick on the edge. Granted it was a 1972 car, so the glass might be better now, but still...

If you need a set let me know, you can have mine. I took them off my 850 T-5R. I actually installed a pair from the S70, they have rain catchers and are a lot better and fit.

How is that stuff holding up? I need to redo mine....again. Normal spray paint does not seem to last very long.

Default Electrical tape!

Electrical tape believe it or not works great. just lay it over the now showing metal bam! looks new nobody notices it either, this is the best way to fix it for next to nothing

I would check out some bone yards. I found a nice set to replace my peeling one that way.

I had the tape put on over year ago, it made it through storms and our winter here, it doesn't show any sign of it going to peel yet and it is still as black as when i put it on
