Anyone Know How To Change The Alternator???
Had my alternator check by Autozone, and they said it's going out. Seems reasonable since the car had its radio turning on and off on me, a/c surging, blinkers that don't work (for that one day), hard starts, and ABS Tracs lights flashing every now and then this past week. So the question is, how do I remove it so I can put the new one in?

I have not done one myself on a Volvo, but I have done it on other cars.
Basically, you remove the accessory belt, disconnect the main power cable and connectors. After that you unbolt the old alternator and then bolt in the new one. Put the cables back on and the accessory belt and you should be good to go.

Alternator is pretty easy. Me and my Dad put in a new alternator in about an hour and half. Move power steering pump out of the way, three bolts for the alternator, a couple brackets. Do a google search, you'll find some write ups.

p.s. you don't need to remove thermostat housing like this person did in the write up.

This is the route I'd take

Chances are you don't need bearings just brushes and maybe diodes.

#1 Power Steering Pump DOES have to be removed (you can leave hoses attached, just put it up over top of the motor)
#2. While you are in there I suggest the following things be done/checked.
Check gap on A/C clutch, if on the high side repair that also while everything is out. The proper way is to unbolt the compressor, remove the outer clutch disc remove 1 shim (usually all that is needed) and reinstall. Search the forum I think TECH has a writeup.
Replace the serpentine belt with the "NEW" longer belt with new routing. Much better contact and quieter.

Don't have to worry about that, my compressor was replace recently. Hey, has anyone tried to take the pulley wheel of the alternator? I'm stumped, tried jamming with the screw driver to prevent spinning of the shaft and ended up destroying the built-in fan, but could care less since it was non-functional anyways.
