Default ARD green cam timing adjustment

So I just put in my green tune in my 850. I know Lucky recommends the cam timing be adjusted to -2 intake, -1 exhaust and also change the wastegate setting to 3.5PSI.

What is the purpose for the changing of the timing? It seems it's the only tune to recommend to do so.

Lucky recommends it, but I've never had the chance to get it done.

Cam Timing Tool
Those are the instructions I used to "try" and do it, but I couldn't distinguish between the two where the TDC mark was. Plus I had a master mechanic(dodge) friend and a another old school volvo guy both agree that retarding the timing is very odd just for a re-map.

I just want to know the reason he does recommend. But I ran it last night for a while and boy it was definitely boosting more than before! I put in autometer gauge and it was reading 16/17PSI like it should be

Im unsure why he recommends it, never asked him. Figured its for best results.

I recall you wanting to upgrade to a 16t. Don't waste your time.

If your 15g is good, save up and in a year and change do a full engine build/manual swap/20g turbocharger/hi performance clutch/e85/hi flow fuel pump/ard black and all other go fast parts you like.

According to the guys with 400crank HP 850/x70 cars that's the best way to go. Don't waste time with the 16/18/19t. I only got a 16t BC I hurt my 15g.

What you should do next is a 2.5inch cat back to keep your turbo safe at top speed. Lookup a kid called fwdgtp, follow his mod list, break into the 12s.

Sounds like $$$$ lol. I will eventually, no doubt.. But I can score a 16 for $180 locally, so I might just do it for the sake of doing it. I just want something quick and reliable for now, so I'm going to keep the boost to what the green ecu gives me and just drive it for now.

I recant my statement about it making 16psi. It seems to drop from 15 down to 12-14 at WOT, and I'm almost 100% it's the TCV because I read that the OEM TCV can't above 15-16psi. I just ordered the snabb one(ard was out of there's even tho it's the same thing)

Dude, don't waste your money. Its no faster. I thought so at first bc of placebo effect/hope but after timing it, they're neck to neck from 0to150.

15g/remap/stock exhaust/before hot side crack/1 wk after are green install

16t/remap/2.5 cat back

I removed the 16t from a junkyard car, cost me $100.

Get a proper boost gauge if you don't have one already.

Boost should hit target (16-17psi) at wot then taper down to 12-14psi by redline, spiking to 18-19psi between shifts.

Just for craps and giggles, right now as your R sits, it should be able to keep up with:

05-present charger rt340-370hp
07-present 335i 300hp
06-08 impala ss 303hp
03and up m45 340hp

And so on. You will get walked by any g37/camaro ss.. Just a heads up.

You'll be surprised how many brand new performance cars you'll walk with just a remap lol...caddy CTS 3.6/camaro rs and others.

Got an autometer gauge and slapped it in, that's the only reason I noticed the weird boost issue. Snabb TCV is on it's way, hopefully that solves it.. Still feels quick as hell tho!

As long as I can eat the effing rice burners, I'll be happy. I can't stand the fart-cannon warriors!

I haven't seen a rice burner yet that I didn't spank stock.

You may want to swap in a pair of NA cams. That should give you a little more.

Boxpin has been through several turbo sizes so ask him what difference they make.

@Vmaxx: I have not peeked at the videos yet but did you know that the ScanGauge 2 records 1/4 mile times? Having one of those is better than having a "Test and Tune" day (other than not worrying about the Po Po).

I am going to go help him set them up.

Our cars are not race cars. The cams are setup by the factory to provide smooth, efficient driving. When it comes to performance they are not in their optimal positions to accommodate the higher RPMs, flow and timing advance.

Here are the settings for +2 Exhaust and -2 Intake.

Yep a pair of NA cams added 10-15whp for one guy who dynoed before/after at the same dyno around the same time.

I actually didn't know of that, but I don't mind whipping out the camera and recording when conditions allow lol. I can then time it at my own pace with my stopwatch later.
