Hello, all. My 1996 850 GLT wagon had a squeaky fan motor for about a year before it finally died. Yes, the dash LED's blinked every time I started the car! I removed the old fan and confirmed it defective by jumping straight from car battery; Fan would not turn. I checked new replacement fan in same manner and it ran perfectly until installed under dash. When I check fan directly from 12v battery it runs fine, but will not operate when installed. Whenever car is in motion there is warm heat and cold A/C provided by forced fresh air, so I know there are no compressor issues. Is there some additional part that often goes bad with the failure of the fan motor?
What else should I have replaced in addition to the fan motor?
