Default bad alternator.

I know i have a bad alternator... i read somewhere that if the alt goes out it will make the SRS light come on... my AC controls wont work at all... i saw a diagram that shows the red and white wire coming off alt go to the SRS system and climate control..... am i dumb for thinking that it is the cause

If you have a bad alternator, your car is dead by now by draining out the battery. Or, if the voltage regulator is shot, all lights glow brighter and the climate blower runs faster as the engine RPM increases.

The average life of the Bosch alt is approx 12 years/100,000 miles plus/minus. Mine dies at 12 year period & around 140,000 miles.

If you know a reputable shop that specialises in Volvo/Euro makes, have their ASE-Master Tech test the alternator. If you can remove it yourself, AutoZone/other parts shop can bench-test it for you but it's a bit of pain to yank the thing out of the engine bay.

I hope this is of some use.
