Hello All, firstly, couldn't find a post for this and secondly, how to describe the symptoms. Basically gear changes are very rough, quite a thump on some changes (mainly upwards). My 93 850 GLE has only done 158,000 klms, and had a second hand gearbox fitted 4 years ago. The gearbox has a plate with brand and Made in Japan. Before I pour hundreds of dollars into a mechanic's bank account, maybe I can get some help here. I believe the box operation is controlled by an ECU - could this be faulty. I am told Volvo recalled a lot of gearboxes on this model. If it may be the ECU where does it live ( I have a second 850 same year that I can pinch parts off) and check if the problem is fixed. I have got some great info from all the posts on this forum on other matters, and hope someone can help me with the gearbox problem. Good health to all, Wayne

 

First off, check the level and condition of the fluid, and then all the motor and transmission mounts. You would be surprised what issies these two things can cause

 

+1....Start with the easiest things first!

 

Had same problem..check the throttle cable. mine was too tight and after loosening PROBLEM FIXED!..takes 2 minutes to check
