Default Blower motor and glovebox question (2 seprate things)

Hey guys, I'm working on a buddys 850 wagon (1995 2.4) that he just got.

First off, the glove box is stuck shut. I think the lock and unlock works with the key, but the lever I think is broken. You can pull it all you want, but it won't unlatch.

Is there a sneaky way you can open the glove without destroying it?

Second, the blower motor resistor pack is out, fan only works on high. I looked up the price on a new one, and holy crap, $90 was the cheapest I can find. Has anyone rebuilt one of these? Figured I would ask before I spend the time de-soldering it and finding new resistors to put in.

Thanks for the help!

Here is how I dealt with my glove box(s).

I have heard of the blower resistors popping a thermal fuse. You can buy a replacement at Radio Shack - It is a coffee pot fuse. The problem is that the fuse is a higher temperature rating than tin/lead solder so if that was the problem you need to use a low grade silver solder to solder it back in. My bad resistor packs have been due to the resistor itself opening up which is usually apparent from the burned hole in the resistor pack.
