Default brake switch adjustment

I removed my brake switch while trying to diagnose the cruise control.

It is the adjusting brake switch, and when it was out I adjusted it all the way, so now it will not fit. How do I release the adjustment?

Figured it out. Brute force. If you push on the part of the switch that comes in contact with the brake pedal it will adjust the switch length the opposite way.

The brake light switch does nothing with the cruise control... if you look above the brake switch you will see the white cruise control switch..

Brake light switch vs. cruise control cut out switch.

FCP has the part if that's what's wrong.

Hi,
I pulled this switch because it was in my way when testing the other switch.

Which tested good with the ohm meter.

Cruise control does not work. I have the volvo manual for diagnosing it, but its difficult for me to understand. Cruise never worked since I bought the car. It doesn't even try to engage. I was going to test the control switch next.

95 850 wagon n/a.

I started too. Seemed like it was geared towards turbo cars. That is why I checked the brake switch though.

Well, they are not really different. The only thing about the turbo cars is that there is a boost gauge line that runs with the cruise line so if both fail it's easier to track down the difference.

Try this:
1. Check the linkage at the gas pedal, mine was loose.
2. Adjust the switch at the brake pedal.
3. Check the vacuum tubes that run off the cruise.
4. Check/change the cruise relay at the fuse box (under the lid).
5. Check the switch at the turn signal stalk.
6. Swap the cruise unit out under the battery tray.

Hope you get it working.

So I didn't get around to anymore diag.

But it worked today. The first time I used it the car dropped about 10 mph before it kicked in. But each time I used it the system improves.
