Default Brake Vibration

96 850 wagon vibrates like hell when stopping, usually when its a slow stop, otherwise its ok, the slower I'm going and coming to a stop its worse, abt 10mph to a stop it feels like i have some crazy bass its thats bad, probably going to vibrate it to pieces. It did it ever since I replaced the pads and rotors all around, don't know about before, the previous owner cant recall.

If you are talking about a loud noise, 10 to 0 mph under light braking - that's the rear brake rotors resonating. Like rubbing your wet finger on the top of a wine glass getting it to resonate.

How to get rid of the noise: Install the factory shims - these will hold the pads at a slight angle and solve your noise.

Thanks! i thought there was supposed to be shims. Gonna order those now, the resonating is pretty brutal.

Nice write up on Matthews.:

Look for the kit that has both the shims and new pins. PS - this is one thing I loved about the 850. Easiest rear pad replacement ever . I'd also recommend sticking with OEM / genuine volvo pads. They are "organic" which has a better feel than harder semi-metallic/ceramic pads. If you need to replace rotors, Brembo/Zimmermann/Bosch all work fine and are easy to find.

I just finished the rear brakes on my 850R. I used Zimmerman rotors and Volvo pads. The pads have the shims attached.
