Default Brakes Screech but they are new

I have a 93 Volvo 850 GLT with 130,000 miles and I got my rear and front brakes and rotors all replaced fairly recently (everything but the front brakes have been replaced within the past month).

But, about 3 weeks ago (prior to the installation of my new front rotors), my brakes started making a loud screeching sound. They first few times I brake during the drive there is generally no sound but after that, the screeching begins. I was told replacing the front rotors would fix this problem, but it did not. I've been assured that this isn't dangerous, but it's still pretty annoying. Any idea what could be causing this?

Im no expert for sure, but make sure the shims are there and a little noise grease around certain spots on the caliper helped mine.

What kind of pads did you use? If you don't use OEM (genuine Volvo) you can expect squealing. I have replaced pads with less that 4K on them with OEM because of squealing. OEM's never squeal, but they get lots of brake dust on your wheels. That's something I just live with. I can not live with squealing.

Its either the pads, or the shims are missing and/or need some anti-squeal compound on them.

I agree with Jim, nothing seems to sound as quiet as OEM not sure how much they go for you in your neck of the woods, but def worth it, i guess next break pad change, change them, or yes put brake quiet on the shims and grease waht you can but obviously not the pads :P

Wondering though, i can get some cheap ceramic pads, would they be worth it for me? or still squeal. Thanks

You are the first person I have heard of who has a problem with OEM pads squealing when they are new. Most Volvo owners swear by the OEM pads.

Do not buy ceramic as they squeal more than other. Everybody is looking at me when stopping at lights and I'm not pretty. LOL

Problem solved.
Today I installed new half shims I got from Fcp gorton http://www.fcpgroton.com/product-exe...category_id/45
Also used blue silicone grease from AutoZone. Drove all day and not a single squeal. What relief for me and neighbors. LoL.
