Broken M56 Transmission
Hey all, first time Volvo owner, first time posting.
I picked up a 93 850 GLT with the manual 5 speed. I knew it was going to have issues with how cheap it was, and it sure does.
It doesn’t go into gear even though all the cables and bushings are intact. I’ve pulled the center console and nothing is out of place. So I’m 95% sure something in the trans is bad. I can’t even manually put it into gear from the linkages under the air box.
How pooped am I? Can these transmissions be repaired? Or am I going to have to start looking for used ones.
Any help is appreciated.

No parts are available at all, no execptions, as far as I know. Volvo offers a rebuild, or used to. I've never heard of anybody getting any parts except out of another car.
That said - it's pretty hard to damage a transmission such that it won't go into any gear. You might want to tell yourself that the real problem is in the final drive end. We had a guy post in this form just a month ago that had the exact same problem and his lift side drive axle wasn't snapped in. He fixed it for free.
