i am buying a '96 850 R which has 148k kms on it and was wondering what major services are coming up and what i should look for.

Timing Belt must be replaced every 80,000 miles.

Other Items to consider.
1) Drain and replace (not flush) auto trans fluid
2) Inspect and replace, if necessary, brake rotors and pads
3) Battery -- Interstate Battery Center has battery with flap over positive terminal post.
4) Replace Cabin Air Filter
5) Replace O2 sensor -- two, before and after cat
6) Replace thermostat

The handle of glove box door is prone to breaking off. I made a loop from fishing line and attached to door release. All hidden with fabric tape.
