Default Buying a red 94 850 Turbo Station Wagon?

I currently own a 94 850 non turbo 850 sedan. I am now pretty well educated with these Volvos, including PNP switches, tranny stuff and all of the other stuff. I am currently looking at buying a 94 Red Turbo Station wagon with 151k on it for $2500.00. Looks pretty good. My ? Is? Should I look or listen for anything while inspecting this one. Any pointers, on inspecting a good turbo? Any advice or the price if this Volvo would be great. I'm a Volvo fan now. Love Em . Marvin.

Hey Marvin, welcome to the forum.

Look in the 850 section, you'll see a DIY thread. In that thread there is a Buyers Guide, use that.

Default Gonna Buy that Red 94 Turbo wagon

Well here's my thinking. I currently still own that 94 850 non turbo that I only paid $500.00 for. I need to replace the s1 s2 solinoids/ don't have 1st gear; tried everything. Missing the MAF sensor, ac need recharged? Uses antifreeze/ small leak, ETC. But the dam thing keeps going, even at 8 degrees here in Idaho . I figured I would buy this pretty nice red 94 turbo wagon with 151k for $2500.00 or less. I'm willing to spend money on A car with a good foundation, but not the one I currently own . Would you guys do the same thing? Anyway that's where I'm at for now. I'm hooked on these Volvos because of ease and the swedes enginerring.

I'd purchase another one today. These are great cars.

Are you saying that your current car is driven daily without a MAF?

Default MAF sensor

Yep, I've been driving without a MAF for 4 months. I've tried to get one from a salvage yard for months, found a 93 but I didn't get there fast enough. Can't pass emissions, and smells like eggs. Still going!

Default MaF

I've got some money coming in here in a few days, I might have to buy a new one, unless I get this other 94 turbo wagon. Yep I have no first gear, no MAF and so on but she still purrs all the way home . Every few weeks the flashing light is tripped, I just reset the codes and resume driving it. I'm not spending the money on this one because is doesn't have a good foundation for my likening . Speedo don't work either , but I just check the codes and find out there. I'd say that's about what a $500.00 car is worthy of.

Marvin- If you can beleive it, here in (broke) New York State, 95 and older it's just lights, horn, tires and glass to pass inspection. No emmissions, no computer check. Who would have thought? Dave

You should find out when the timing belt was last changed and pay very careful attention to the expansion tank, dip stick and oil cap...looking for signs of a blown head gasket.

If you get this you will be half way to catching me....

Marvin, a clean working T5 is a different beast to any NA Volvo. Absolutely you should buy it. Once you have a T5 or 850R, no NA will do.

No MAF?! Stall much?

Well I ended up buying a super sweet white 1994 turbo 850 wagon. 150k 2 owners, all options inc, fogs, and heated seats. The car spent its whole life in Bay Area Ca.. I sold my other 850 to salvage yard for $400. To many battle scars . I love this one. So happy!
