Default A/C Problems

I have a 96 850 Turbo. I have seen many posts with a similar problem so I must not be alone. I have not however found a fix for it. The A/C works and blows cold air for a while and then cuts off and blows warm air. If turned off and then on again it works for a while and then cycles. I tested with a kit and while on the pressure was 35. When it turned off the pressure went to 100. When it came back on it when down again to 35. Anyone have any ideas?

A new Compressor will fix the problem.
Or remove the compressor and reshim the clutch.

You will have to remove the compressor from the car. Then remove the outer part of the clutch.
Then there is shims between the outer part and the pulley. You will have to install a smaller washer/spacer to bring it closer together.

Let me see how things go and if I can get my hands on one and do a walk through with pics.

No Sweat.... Like I said, it would be great if it happens, but definitely understandable if not.

Thanks,

Ok update. Once compressor is off set it like the following pic and remove the 10mm screw in the middle of the pulley.

Then carefully remove the outer part of the Clutch.(There is a special tool which I didn't have I used to screw drivers but be careful)

Then either the shims will come out with the outer peice like mine did or they will be sitting on the shaft once the outer part is removed.

If you look closely the washers/shims are different thicknesses. You will need to Measure the thickness and then find one a little thinner and reinstall and check the Gap between the outer and inner part of the clutch.
I will have to find out the exact specs but I believe it needs to be .016 Cannot be more than .020.
Use a fueller gauge to measure the gap.

Hopefully this helps.

Thanks Tech!!

That is great info, I appreciate you doing this for us. It should get my kids A/C back on track.

One last question. Once I pull the compressor, will I have to have the A/C system professionally re-charged after it is all back together again?/

Again,

Thanks

Glenn

I would because it needs to have a good Vaccum put on it before the charge.

Unless you can get your hands on a vaccum pump.

Also if you can Cap the lines once you take them off the compressor.

This will save moisture from getting in the system.

If you find a vaccum pump once you cap the line put a vaccum on it.

If you leave the system open to long you will have to replace the dryer.
