Default A/C and REC flashing

Hi, There was a leak in the air compressor(oil was leaking) I poured a can of stop leak that includes some oil and r134a freon, the leak stopped instantly, A/c is Ice cold, but now the A/C and REC lights are flashing for about 15-20 seconds after I start the car which indicate a malfunction in the ECC system,The can of stop leak probably caused this to happen, Anyone experienced the same problem? any comments?
what do you think?

Thanks
AJ

Hi AJ,

Those blinking LEDs are common problem to the 850's ECC (Electronic Climate Control). They turn on for very negligible reasons. Access the OBD-I terminal in the engine compartment and erase the codes to reset the ECU. As long as the climate control functions after the LEDs stop blinking, the cause is really negligible. That self-diagnostic system is way too oversensitive.

P.S: Volvos don't seem to like any aftermarket additives or stop-leak stuff. It is usually best to go with whatever is recommended by the manufacturer.

Thanks Kanji, I really appreciate your help.
I did it, I erased the code. We'll see if it comes back,
But how do I know if there is enough oil in the compressor?
It was leaking so I have no idea how much oil I have lost. The can I put in is called EZ CHILLS TUNE UP. the can is 5 oz. contain Maxi Cool performance booster, leak sealer, 2 oz of oil , A/C cleaner, 1oz of R134A.
Thanks AJ

Hi AJ,

>I did it, I erased the code.
Well done! I am now deleting the 2nd attachment.

I do not know of any way to check the oil level in the A/C system, as the oil is mixed with R134a and recirculating within the system. If you added some R134a that contained oil and if the system pressure is at normal, that's the best you can do. If you were 100% sure that the evaporator was fairly new, it is worth the money to have a shop empty the system, evacuate it with vacuum to get rid of any moisture within the system, and then recharge.

Clean the compressor area with a can of brake cleaner with the engine cold (overnight is the best), and ensure it is the compressor that is leaking, not the engine oil.

If the system is operating without any mysterious noise or behaviour, there probably is nothing to worry about.

I hope this gives you some ideas.
