I'm trying to find where the a/c relay is on a 1993 850. I've looked next to the fuse box (removed 4 screws), not there. Anybody know exactly where it is located?

 

Behind the glove compartment. You have to take the glove compartment off. Then behind that there should be a relay kind of in the centrel maybe offset toward the drivers side. It should be black with green lettering and numbers. That's what mine looked like.

 

Well, we did find that, however, the replacement relay had 5 prongs, and was green, as well as slightly smaller. Perhaps we got the wrong relay? We purchased it off of RockAuto.com from the volvo 850 AC category.

 

engineeringnerd, was it the right relay and how much was it? Also, did by chance the bad relay cause your cig. lighter to not work?

 

The original relay is a solid state way to complicated thing. The replacement relay is a pretty much standard SPDT relay that you can get at any auto parts store. Keep in mind most auto relays are SPST relay.

 

Try not to group problems together. You have 2 problems, not 1. Unless they are on the same blown fuse.

 

Sorry, I am deciding on whether or not to buy this car. I was just trying to figure out if they might be related.
