Can anyone tell me how to find and change the fuel filter on 1993 Volvo 850.
I want to change my fuel filter but I'm sure where it's located and have no clue how to change it. Any help would be great. Thanks.
its really simple.the fuel filter is under the car on the passenger side just in front of the gas tank.
you want to relieve the gas pressure.some do it by removing one of the fuses(forget which one sorry).
then run the car untill it dies.then you need to pull the couplings off each end of the fuel filter.it is easiest if you try to push them back using a 17 mm wrench.the couplings may or may not be wrapped in tape.just peel it off.
you will need a rag because some gas will spill.you might also want to wear some kind of eye protection.
the filter will be filled with fuel so be careful.then just put the new one in.

removing just the fuse wont relieve the pressure in the line, if you remove the fuel pump fuse you will then need to start the car to get the gas out of the fuel line until it is empty. (will stall when gas is out of the line since fuel pump not activated)
Instead of the fuse, on the right side of the fuel rail there is a schrader type valve that you can put a rag under then press in the pin (like letting the air out of a tire) to relieve the pressure. This is the way that I would go.
EDIT:
Found a link to a pic of the above mentioned valve on fuel rail.

you are right..i forgot to mention to run the car afterwards, didnt catch it when i
re-read my post.i also did not mention the schrader valve.i just thought the fuse would be easiest for a beginner...i need to work on my proof reading skills.
thanks for correcting me meb7070.would have hated for him to go and spray gas on himself because of my bad instructions

I found this link http://volvospeed.com/Repair/fuelfilter.php it is for volvo 850 and S70, V70, C70. planing to do it next week
A good simple repair, will maybe take 20 minutes (finding everything the first time and going very slowly to be sure that nothing is out of order, etc).
Doesn't need any special tools or anything either.
