Unhappy Can't pass emissions

Hoping someone can help. Had my 850 turbo tested for emissions twice, failed both times.
I even left out the air filter to suck in clean air. Way too high on hydrocarbons and CO2.
Any ideas of what I can do to get it to pass? PLEASE HELP

I would check there first. You may have a bad O2 or something like that.

I hope it's that simple. If not O2, what else could it be? Any ideas?

wouldnt taking out the air filter richen up the fuel flow? making emissions worse, I have heard of putting a quart or so of diesel in the fuel tank, but I have no idea of the validity of that...Rog

Have you changed the engine oil recently? Does it need a tuneup? yada, yada, etc.

High CO2 and HC typically means it's too rich of a fuel/air mixture, but high HC can also be caused by misfire from too lean of a mixture too. Does the car run well? Like Tech said, ck for codes first.

How many miles on this ride? A worn out engine could cause this; point is it could be a million different things; give us some more background...

Note my first suggestion; dirty, gas diluted engine oil can definitely make a car fail smog inspection.

Angry

OK the codes that came through were P0130 and P01235, the upstream O2 sensor. I changed the oil and plugs. Turns out the O2 sensor was unplugged last test. Got a new sensor anyway. Installed new sensor, followed the wire up to connector and the connector was not plugged in either. There were 4 wires coming out of the harness, so I plugged them in ( hopefully in the right order) and checked the codes again. NO Errors! It said PASS and no stored codes. Went for emissions test agin, and the HC and CO were HIGHER than before! What the hell!!??? Any clues, anyone?

take out both o2 sensors from the stream. make a decent leak right after your cat and run it hot.

Thumbs down

seems to run better. Will have to check for any new codes, but not sure if it reads
real-time. I'm now at a loss for what to do next. And I can't re-register the car until it passes. Very aggravating!

Make sure you take the car to the shop all warmed up and hot. take it out on the highway before testing and push the car a little. warm cats burns cleaner then a cold cat.

Check your air filter?

I have a P0130 code on my car now. I guess it's the top/front O2 Sensor. I read where someone found his unpluged. Was it unpluged when he got the car or did it pop loose somehow? I don't see them popping loose.

Does low power to it mean there is some other problem or should I just start out by replacing the sensor?

Run your gas tank down to two gallons of gas. Go to Home Depot and buy a gallon of Denatured Alcohol. Poor the entire gallon in the tank. Take it straight to the smog shop and have them run the test. It will pass with flying colors no matter how bad its running. The Denatured alcohol burns so clean you will pass. After the test drive it out then fill your tank full again with gas.

Happy smogging

(been doing this for 4 years now with my truck)
