Default CD CHANGER WORRIES

My CD changer i think has give up, the head unit displays CD E-01 what does this mean? It wont even eject the cartridge! Volvo said its maybe time to replace the changer at a cost of £100, which coming up to crimbo i cannot afford. Any ideas?

Just so you know i have a 96 850 T5 with a 6 CD changer in the boot.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can generally find them on ebay. Prices vary. I think I got the one for my sons car for about $60 USD.

this means that a cd is stuck inside the mechanism and it won't budge. I had the same problem, i just took the changer apart and broke the cd inside it into pieces and took them out, and then it worked perfectly fine after that.

Cheers for the advice people, took my changer to bits and found a big batch of hair stuck in between the cogs, removed it and it freed everything up and now worksas good as new. had to take all the rear trim to bits to get it out but it was worth it in the end.
