Hi,
I have a question about the winter mode in my car. I have a 1996 850 with an automatic transmission and I was wondering if winter mode does anything other than make the gearbox start in 3rd gear when in "D". I read the manual and that is all it says about winter mode. Does it cause the transmission (clutch) to slip in order to start in 3rd or does or does it immediately engage 3rd gear without any slipping?

It changes the shift points to lessen the possibility of wheel spin during gear changes.
