Default cd player in a '94

My 1994 wagon has a factory-installed cd player in the trunk, and I can't get it to work. It won't open when I press the button; I don't think it is getting power. Any suggestions?

Hi,

Well, again I never dealt with the factory CD player on my 850 and am not sure exactly what you need to do to get it to work.

I can only suggest that you check for proper wiring connections. Does the CD player have a "power" indicator? It is usually a tiny red LED.

Wait till other members jump in; someone should be able to help you on this.

There is a long cable that runs from the headunit to the multiCD. It has two connectors, one for data, and the other one for power. Make sure they are both connected. If it doesn´t work get a new head unit with MP3 support and on top you will a DIN slot.

Thanks! Is this something I can do myself at Robbins, if I know next to nothing about cars, or should I take it to the mechanic (or a mechanically-minded friend)?

A mechanically minded friend would be fine. It's pretty easy to look at the back of the head unit. There are two little tabs, one on each side of the unit. Push them in with a fine tip screwdriver or even a ball point pen and they will pop out. After they are popped out, grab them and slowly pull out the head unit. It may be a little tight, but it just pulls out. Then you can see the connections in the back. If you disconnect the power, you will need to know your Stereo code when you plug it back in though. It's a four digit code that comes on a card with the car. If you don't have it call a dealer and give them the VIN number of the car and they will give it to you. If it's not the original head unit, they can give you the code from the serial number of the head unit also.
