Default changed 4 of 5 spark plugs

Ok so I changed four of 5 plugs on my 97 850 t5 now the car runs way better, only misses slightly whenever it gets heat soaked I think.

My question is... since it is nearly impossible to find one oem volvo plug i might just go to the auto parts store and get a champion plug for the last cylinder. Would it be detrimental to the car if I do this or would i need to locate one oem volvo plug?

Thanks for the replies!

Try and locate one, if not, just buy a set.

Yah, they're only like 35 bucks or something from FCP.

+1.

In this instance think of what's best for your car - not your pocket.

upon research and from what a volvo tech told me, bosch plugs makes volvos check engine lights illuminate, he has an 850 t5 wagon and an s80 t6. he told me to stick with oem or champions. also the haynes manual says champions as a replacement will suffice. i need to locate an owner's manual also.

i am not being cheap at all, just am doing things in order of importance although i understand a full tune up is important. i got four oem volvo plugs free from a friend, installed em, car runs a whole lot better. still misses intermittently under full throttle.

this morning i bought a champion copper plug and will install it when the weather clears to see how she runs then.

albeit car is more lively at startup and on the road now than with the old plugs.

will it be an issue if i install one champion copper plug along with four oems? let me know your thoughts.

Thanks guys

Odd, I have been running the bosch plugs for a while now and have no check engine light on. guess your volvo tech doesnt know all there is to know.

NGK plugs are great for honda, not so much for volvos i don't think.

Default t5

ok yesterday i changed the distributor cap, rotor, and wires. they're all bosch made. I also got a bosch throttle positioning sensor b/c the car would have trouble starting and shut off @ 75mph two days ago.

car runs consistent for the most part, no missing at idle with or w/o the ac on, no missing under kickdown in 1-4 gears. I'll tackle the fuel system next and install my oem engine mount. i didn't know it would be merely impossible to install it by hand w/o tools!

volvo for life! yeayeaeee

Are these the plus you would recommend? They come out to about $35 with shipping.

Vmax, you changed all the parts in this kit, it seems. Did you or anyone get the tune-up kit for their non-turbo from FCP?

How about the extended tune-up kit?

Anyone buy any of these these kits? Good purchase? I just bought a '96 850 non-turbo, with 190K miles. And I don't have complete service records for her. She doesn't feel like she is driving at peak performance though, and I was wondering if it is a waste of money to buy all this in a kit, or buy it separately as needed. Thanks guys!

I'm one of the odd ***** who love to keep their motor compartment clean as a whistle. Un fortunately, I did not realize that unless properly sealed and even being under a cover, moisture can accumulate around a plug and cause a miss.

Yes, the OEM Volvo plugs are perfect. I just shopped around on various european parts websites to get the lowest prices and neither ipd nor fcpgroton were cheaper than the two i went with. If you want the names let me know, presently I forget who. I bought all the parts separately and it came to $85 and change.

Did a little road trip for work this morning and it did not miss a beat!

Hey Vmax, I'd love to get the names where you got those parts for such a great price. I'd really appreciate it. I am on a serious budget! Did that include the shipping as well?
I've got to get this car at peak, I know she is being held back by her current parts.
Also, for those who are looking at that FCP kit The company put the same kit on Ebay at a discount price. About $130 I believe. Thats $30 off the site price. They don't have the extended kit though.
Thanks!

Good luck, I also gotta get a timing belt/chain and crankshaft position sensor to keep the starting persistent.
