Yes I got the pics... Thank You...Well to update the check engine light thing....I have been back to autozone twice now to clear the light and it is on again. Same code and all P0440. The first time the light came on I attributed the code to over filling the tank....but now when I look back the fuel guage read about 1/4 tank...The second time it came on, I had just run through the car wash and I bet I didn't get 1/2 mile away and the light came on again. Now it is on again and it came on at about 1/4 tank again. It seems to come on at about the same fuel level. This is the 3rd tank of gas and the 3rd time the light has come on. I opened the hood and found the vacuum line that goes to the evap canister and the rubber elbow was bent to less than 90 degrees which might be causing some restriction. I followed it up to the switch and the rubber elbow there too was bent to much...I don't know if this has anything to do with ANYTHING but who knows. I also disconnected the plug and re-plugged the switch for good measure. I bought an Actron cp9180 scanner yesterday so I don't have to keep going back to Autozone, even tho I could have made alot of trips on the money saved using their codereader.

Is there anyway to inspect the timing belt without doing a tear down. The only reason I ask, I am currently in the middle of another project. The dreaded BHGTB/WPon a 94 Acura Legend. My resources are currently dedicated to fixing this monster. Parts alone for this is over 6 bills and I can't afford to change out the volvo's just yet. Unless it is a job that is very simple and inexpensive that I can do myself in an afternoon, I will have to wait.I was hoping I wouldn't have to do anything to it for awhile. I know the advice is good and stands to reason, but is the risk really that high?

I read that you can remove the timing belt cover and inspect it. IIRC you only need to remove a couple of Torx screws.

Go to an Advance Auto Parts and get an Actron CP9125 OBDII scanner, for less than $80 you get a nice code reader and you will be able to erase codes as well.

That's the one I have, and it works fine.

I bought the Actron CP9180 off of ebay for $146 delivered. I thought it might be a little better than the 9125,35,45,75 because it can scanlive data and the display is backlit for those like myself who are constantly in the dark. I gave the 9125 serious consideration since you can buy one off of ebay for under $50 and what are you really going to do with it other than clear those stinking codes?

I guess I know that with owning a Euro car, CELs always show up and I needed something simple and cheap. The difference between the more expensive and this simpler one, was that it displays the actual meaning of the code in three languages, and I can certainly do without that, and looking up the code on a table is simpler...

I'm not sure about the service light. The CP9180 will clear any code in OBDII memory and any DTC's. It's like you get a fresh start everytime. What I like about the 9180 is the live data stream. It's actually pretty cool to see what the sensors are doing. If there is a fault you get freeze frame to capture the malfunction. You can disconnect and review away from the car and print on your PC with the included USB cable. All in all I think the cp9180 gives you more bang for the buck "IF" you don't also need the OBDI capability. So not only do you get to clear the codes, you can get some pretty usefull info from the scanner. Or a pretty cool toy thats loaded with features.

To inspect the timing belt is easy. There is a 12 mm bolt on the timing cover on the right side of the engine (left when standing facing the engine). Remove that bolt and lift the cover out and voila! there is the timing belt!

I would get it done since the belt is old from age. You would rather spend $300-$400 on the timing+related parts than $1000+ to replace the head/engine. If you can do a BHG on a legend, the timing belt on the Volvo is very simple.

And i know what you mean by the dreaded BHG on the legend. I had to do one on my 91 legend. SurprisinglyI managed to do it outdoors at my apartment in freezing cold winter temperature. Was well worth it though. I had it done within $500 as oppose to getting it done for about $1700.

You are correct that the timing belt swap on the 850 is a piece of cake compared to the Legend.I willprobably go ahead and get it done. It really isn't going to make much difference with the Legend repair. I'm not driving the Legend at the moment andit will get repaired when I decidewhich way togo. I've never done HG's before but I guess there's first time for everything and the guys on the Legend Forum are very supportive like the members here.

Did you buy OEM or aftermarket for the Head gaskets TB/WP?

I didnt do the timing belt or water pump because it was done by the previous owner. All i replaced was the head gaskets, and valve cover gaskets.I just bought the Fel Pro brand.

Just be careful with those knock sensors. They 99% of the time break if you are not extremely gentle with them.
